Blue Bay to Point d'Esny - Blog 2

  I am currently staying with an old school  friend in a rented villa in  the small village of Blue Bay on the South East of the island of Mauritius. We are a minutes walk from the beach and just a 10- minute drive from the market town of Mahebourg. Blue Bay is also conveniently situated 15 minutes from the airport.  Point d'Esney has many high walled seaside bungalows along a road that ends at Blue Bay where an idyllic beach backed by casuarina trees faces the private islet of Ile des Deux  Cocos. The area lies in a designated national marine park, whose crystal clear waters make for excellent snorkelling and diving.   Introduction to Mauritius This blog is for interest only and will hopefully detail some of my time spent in Mauritius 😊 concentrating on the flora and fauna (biased towards birds 😊) Flight took 11 hours and 50 minutes.  Location Mauritius is 1200 miles off the Southeast coast of Africa and 500 miles east of  Madagascar, one of a trio of islands, along with Rodrigues and Reunion, known as the Mascarenes . Shaped like a pear Mauritius 40 miles long and 30 miles wide. Its land area is 720.0 square miles. I am staying with a school friend Karl in his rented villa in the Blue Bay.  Blue Bay is in the south east corner of the island, the nearest town being Mahebourg .  Planned visit is for 5 1/2 months where I have enrolled on an internship starting in late April for 3 months turtle monitoring and coral farming.
