 Introduction to Mauritius

This blog is for interest only and will hopefully detail some of my time spent in Mauritius 😊 concentrating on the flora and fauna (biased towards birds 😊)

Flight took 11 hours and 50 minutes.

Location

Mauritius is 1200 miles off the Southeast coast of Africa and 500 miles east of  Madagascar, one of a trio of islands, along with Rodrigues and Reunion, known as the Mascarenes. Shaped like a pear Mauritius 40 miles long and 30 miles wide. Its land area is 720.0 square miles.

I am staying with a school friend Karl in his rented villa in the Blue Bay. Blue Bay is in the south east corner of the island, the nearest town being MahebourgPlanned visit is for 5 1/2 months where I have enrolled on an internship starting in late April for 3 months turtle monitoring and coral farming.

My place of residence which is a minutes walk to the local beach:-
